I got it at Best buy for $39.99 and it had a $10 mail in rebate which makes it only $29.99.

Also got 256mb ram for the ibook (PC133) and was recommended for the 300mhz G3 ibook, and bought a 20gig HD to have room after installing OSX.
What is the reason for the 8gb partition? Couldn't I partition 1 gb for 9.2.2 and leave the rest for 10? let me know. Thanks, John |

The requirement is that you make your first partition smaller than 8 GB and that you install OS X on that first partition. This only applies to older Macs whose original hard drives were smaller than 8 GB that have been user-upgraded to a new, larger drive. I'd guess that this has something to do with the fact that OS X's engineers weren't exactly counting on older iMac and iBook users ripping out their hard drives in favor of something bigger, but I haven't researched the exact reason.
I would strongly advise against running OS X and OS 9 on separate partitions under any circumstances. They work perfectly together on the same partition and, as such, make your computing life very easy. Install both X and 9 on the first partition, and use the other partition only for data storage. Anyone who tells you that you need to install X and 9 on separate partitions is full of it. |

Wow, $29? That's a heck of a deal.
But I'd go nuts if I had a wireless dongle hanging out of my laptop's USB port. Plus, with the clamshell iBooks, you only have the one USB port to start with... I'd be curious to hear if the reception with the USB wireless is better, worse than, or the same as an AirPort car (I'm assuming that unlike an AirPort card which uses the laptop's built-in antennas, the D-Link has its own antenna?). |

The D-link works just as good as my pcmia card in my pc laptop. And I bought a small 4-USb hub for the ibook. So i dont use up that one usb port.
About partitioning, I will just do what you said. I think I'm going to play with the the 3.2gb HD until my 20gb gets there. So I'll check everything out before installing the new drive. I like a good challenge. john |

So, after reading this article I decided to spruce up my PowerBook G3 333mhz (Bronze Lombard). Here's what I did, where I got it and things I found. All parts were purchased from CompUSA.
1. I bought OSX Panther for $129.99 2. Next I purchased 2 256mb PC100 SODIMM chips from PNY. $109.00 ea. (part #N256S100Z) This maxed out my RAM to 512mb. 3. Then I picked up a 2.5" 20GB Toshiba Hard Drive from Frontier systems for $129.99 (These were availible in 20, 30 and 40GB models. Part #290665). Now here is the cool part, I originaly went to the tech department and partitioned the drive in 5 and 15GB sections (my original Apple drive was 5GB), and Panther couldn't load on it. When I removed the partition it was smooth sailing. I got OS 10.3 and OS 9.2.2 without any hassles. It has been runnig for about a week and I am having no toubles or slowdowns. I feel like I have a whole new powerbook. I use alot of music apps and soft synths, and they are just screaming with Panther and the new RAM. Granted, I get a substantial discount as an employee (the prices I listed were retail), and I did max out the power of my system, but it was worth it to save what was a perfectly good PowerBook. Installation was a snap as there are only 3 screws to remove, and, I put my old 5GB HD in a external case as a storage drive for my soundfonts. If you want to attempt this and are low on cash, buy Panther and the HD first, and add RAM as you go. |

Since im new to my old Blueberry Ibook, I noticed that the area between the f4 and f5 buttons was glowing orange. i only noticed it once. Does anybody know what this is? Thanks By the way, it is running fine on 10.2.8 with 288mb ram. I'm getting the 20gig HD on monday. Love the iBook! John |
