i have just purchased a 14" ibook over the weekend and noticed that the area on the left side where your palm rests while typing gets uncomfortably warm. i know laptops tend to get warm in the bottom part, but this is a bit uncomfortable. i don't know if any other ibook owners have the same experience.....?

Yes, they do run rather warm.
The latest system updates address the issue by making the fan run more often, but all of the new Apple laptops, iBooks and PowerBooks, tend to run pretty warm, particularly with disk intensive processes (big installs, cloning, etc.) Make sure you're running the most recent system update and see how it goes over several days of operation. Some of the new iBooks we imaged recently actually "smelled" hot during the cloning operation, and the FireLite 80Gig external drive we were using got pretty toasty as well... Two months later and all are working fine. If it's a new G4 iBook I wouldn't be too concerned. If it's a year or two old G3, there were lots of logic board and display connector issues (Apple extended the warranty on a whole series of G3 iBooks). |
