My thoughts on upgrading of the emac and imac and powermacs | ||
|
I haven't seen anyone comment on all the great stuff coming out of all the parts people and how it might relate to the timing of the upgraded macs.
First is the double layered dvd writers - sounds like a worthy upgrade for the powermac and top end imacs and emacs, they are from Sony a major supplier of Apple. Second is DDR2 memory: better bandwidth to take advantage of a 2.25, 2.5 and 3ghz processor. If they are doing a upgrade to the whole line they would need alot of boards, memory and processors to accomodate the whole upgrade to all of the line. I would expect Imac/Emac's to run at 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 ghz to keep the heat down even on the 90nm processor. The Powermacs would be upgraded to 1.8 legacy, 2.0 and a 2.5 ghz at 90nm, they will get rid of the single processors because the Imacs/Emac's take up that slack now. The 3 ghz will come with late summer and will drop the 1.8 legacy. I would not expect the Powermacs to be upgraded until late summer/early fall (august earliest), I would not be surprised if they came out with a specific modified processor, with huge memory bandwidth to keep the heat down and processing power up, I would guess around 1.4 ghz a 700mhz ddr bus with a large onboard cache and good sized DDR2 ram. Just addind my two bits. Mydrrin. |
