Anyone care to make any comment on the latest (dare I say) trend in pricing on the iTunes Music Store?
I've been noticing that more and more albums are not fitting into the hugely attractive $9.99 any more. Quite a few are now ($.99) x (However many songs fit on this album). For example, Aerosmith has a new album out, "Honkin' On Bobo", and their album price is $11.88 for twelve songs. Now I'm sorry if I sound a bit old fashioned, but aren't we getting dangerously close to last year's retail prices at the corner music store? True, it's not $17.99 or similar insulting rip-off, but I gotta say that I'm getting rather turned off by these prices. I don't blame Apple...it's likely the label or the artists themselves. But Apple is certainly allowing it to happen. Should they? Are you like me and much less willing to part with $12 than $10 for a "CD"? I would very much like no surprises and see $9.99 across the store.
For years I've resisted buying music. Maybe only 3-4 albums a year. But since iTMS was released, I've bought 211 songs and 145 of those are part of a full album purchase. The main reason why I have so many singles is due to maximizing Pepsi's free song offer (35 freebies and counting, baby!). I've made more album purchases these 11 months than I've made in the last several years. Why? Attractive pricing. I'll bite when I'm not getting bitten myself. I've got money to spend, just don't want to be swindled, knowhatImean?
And one more thing.....I'm seeing more and more albums where one (sometime TWO!) songs are available buy album purchase only. What is that all about??? I hope that's not a a growing trend either! It's a major turn off and I usually just leave that page out of spite. (Even when armed with a Free Song bottle cap)
What say ye? Have you noticed this as well and does it bother you?
